SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois
3 were saddened to learn of the death of Charles K. Barnett of
4 Roodhouse on Monday, April 5, 2004; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Mr. Barnett was born October 15, 1925, in
6 Winchester to Robert Greene and Edna Thelma Day Barnett; he
7 married Clara Elizabeth Peterson in 1946 in Winchester; and
 
8     WHEREAS, Mr. Barnett graduated from high school in
9 Winchester in 1942; he attended the University of North
10 Carolina and received his Masters of Arts in education from
11 MacMurray College in Jacksonville in 1959; he did graduate work
12 in education at Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville;
13 and
 
14     WHEREAS, Mr. Barnett was a teacher at Roodhouse schools,
15 assisting as basketball, football, and track coach; he was a
16 teacher and principal at Patterson School for 10 years; he
17 served one year as assistant regional superintendent of Greene
18 County; 16 years as regional superintendent of Greene County;
19 10 years as district manager of World Book Encyclopedias; 10
20 years on the Greene County Board of Education, four years as
21 chairman; and 15 months as director of vocation for Greene,
22 Calhoun, and Jersey counties; he was president of the Retired
23 Teachers Association of Greene and Jersey counties; he served
24 20 years as chairman of the Roodhouse Library; and
 
25     WHEREAS, Mr. Barnett valiantly served his country in the
26 U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946; he was a member of the American
27 Legion for 50 years and the Roodhouse Lions Club for 20 years,
28 and he was a member of Roodhouse First Baptist Church; and
 
29     WHEREAS, The passing of Charles K. Barnett has been deeply
30 felt by many, especially his wife, Clara E.; his daughter,

1 Patsy (husband, Robert) Hayden; his son, Ray Charles (wife,
2 Kim) Barnett; his 13 grandchildren; his 9 great-grandchildren;
3 his brothers, Jack, Gary, and Fred Barnett; and his sisters,
4 Imogene Schafer, Esther Westermeyer, and Ilene Wright;
5 therefore, be it
 
6     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL
7 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
8 Charles K. Barnett, and we extend our deepest sympathy to his
9 family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
10 further
 
11     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12 presented to the family of Charles K. Barnett as an expression
13 of our sincere condolences.
