| WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois |
3 |
| were saddened to learn of the death of U.S. Army PFC Shawn C. |
4 |
| Edwards of Bensenville on April 23, 2004 when his convoy hit a |
5 |
| roadside bomb in Samarra, Iraq; and
|
6 |
| WHEREAS, PFC Edwards was assigned to the U.S. Army's 121st |
7 |
| Signal Battalion, lst Infantry Division; and
|
8 |
| WHEREAS, PFC Edwards was born in New Mexico and moved to |
9 |
| Bensenville with his family in 1993; and
|
10 |
| WHEREAS, He enlisted in the U.S. Army as a junior in high |
11 |
| school and began service after graduating from York Community |
12 |
| High School in Elmhurst in 2002, where he was a member of the |
13 |
| football and wrestling teams; he planned to return to college |
14 |
| when he completed his military duty; and
|
15 |
| WHEREAS, He discovered a passion for electronics and |
16 |
| computers while in the U.S. Army and hoped to pursue this |
17 |
| passion when he returned home; and
|
18 |
| WHEREAS, PFC Edwards comes from a military family; his |
19 |
| father served in Vietnam and his grandfather was in World War |
20 |
| II; and
|
21 |
| WHEREAS, PFC Edwards had previously been stationed in |
22 |
| Kitzingen, Germany, and arrived in Iraq in early February; his |
23 |
| task in Iraq was setting up cellular communication networks; |
24 |
| and
|
25 |
| WHEREAS, PFC Edwards was proud to serve his country and |
26 |
| showed his commitment to restoring peace by volunteering for |
27 |
| duties in Iraq; and
|
