| SENATE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois |
| 3 |
| learned with regret of the death of Frederick "Stokie" Stokes |
| 4 |
| of East St. Louis on Thursday, April 8, 2004; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Stokes was born on December 19, 1937, in St. |
| 6 |
| Louis, Missouri, to William and Lavondia Stokes; he attended |
| 7 |
| East St. Louis public schools, graduating from Lincoln Senior |
| 8 |
| High School; he attended McKendree College, where he received |
| 9 |
| his bachelor of science degree; and |
| 10 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Stokes entered the U.S. armed forces and |
| 11 |
| received an honorable discharge; he then was employed by |
| 12 |
| McDonnell Douglas Air Craft Corp.; and
|
| 13 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Stokes served as an elementary school teacher |
| 14 |
| at the Charles Manners Elementary School in District 189; he |
| 15 |
| retired from the district in 1994; and
|
| 16 |
| WHEREAS, The passing of Frederick "Stokie" Stokes has been |
| 17 |
| deeply felt by many, especially his wife, Shirley; his sons, J. |
| 18 |
| Frederick Stokes, Leon (Nicki) Sims, and Larry Sims; his |
| 19 |
| sisters, Gwendolyn Moore, Geneva Stokes, Judy Kelly, and Sharon |
| 20 |
| (Howell) Granger; his stepsister, Shirley Holmes; his uncle, |
| 21 |
| Charles Merrits Sr.; his aunts, Willa Mae Williams and Ora B. |
| 22 |
| Howard; his 6 sisters-in-law and 4 brothers-in-law; and his |
| 23 |
| many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, |
| 24 |
| cousins, other relatives, and friends; therefore, be it
|

| RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL |
| 26 |
| ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
| 27 |
| Frederick "Stokie" Stokes, and we extend our deepest sympathy |
| 28 |
| to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be |
| 29 |
