| SENATE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois |
3 |
| learned with regret of the death of Mary E. "Betty" Brosius of |
4 |
| Arlington Heights on Friday, March 26, 2004; and
|
5 |
| WHEREAS, Mary E. Hopp was born and raised in Des Plaines; |
6 |
| she attended Maine Township East High School for 3 years and |
7 |
| was a member of the first graduating class at Maine Township |
8 |
| West High School in 1960; she lived her entire life in Des |
9 |
| Plaines until a recent move to Arlington Heights; her husband, |
10 |
| Dick, preceded her in death in 1979; and
|
11 |
| WHEREAS, Mrs. Brosius believed that people deserved to be |
12 |
| surrounded by love, comfort, and care when they die; because of |
13 |
| this belief, she founded Rainbow Hospice in 1981; the hospice |
14 |
| has gone from caring for less than a dozen patients and |
15 |
| families in 1981, to serving an average of 160 patients and |
16 |
| families each day; it was started as a volunteer hospice and |
17 |
| now has over 120 professional employees and over 200 volunteers |
18 |
| with sponsorship from Advocate and Resurrection Health Care |
19 |
| Corporations; Mrs. Brosius served as the first Executive |
20 |
| Director and, except for a brief hiatus, worked for Rainbow |
21 |
| Hospice until her retirement in January of 2004; and
|
22 |
| WHEREAS, The passing of Mary E. "Betty" Brosius has been |
23 |
| deeply felt by many, especially her daughters, Carrie (Bill) |
24 |
| Bending, Amy (Scott) Pracko, and Julie Brosius; her |
25 |
| grandchildren, Cameron, Trevor, and Shane Parker, and Samantha |
26 |
| and Matthew Pracko; her brother, Richard (Carol Ann) Hopp; her |
27 |
| dear friend, Harvey Kretschmer; her many friends; and her |
28 |
| Rainbow Hospice family; therefore, be it
|

| RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL |

| ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |

| Mary E. "Betty" Brosius, and we extend our deepest sympathy to |
