SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois learned with regret of the death of Thomas L. "Tom" "T.L." Menn of Carthage on Saturday, July 3, 2004; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Menn was born on June 17, 1921 in Quincy to George L. and Blanche M. Ruths Menn; he married Margaret Jo Cleaver on June 3, 1945 in Perry, Missouri; and

WHEREAS, He went through school in Quincy, and in 1947, he started Menn's Firestone Store in Carthage; he was affiliated with the Firestone Tire and Rubber Company for 67 years; and

WHEREAS, He was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church of Carthage, where he served on numerous boards and committees; he was the chairman of the Carthage 125th anniversary celebration in 1962; he served on the Memorial Hospital Board and the Carthage School Board, was a member of the Carthage Chamber of Commerce, a past State president of the Illinois Jaycees, past adult Boy Scouts of America volunteer, and was a sponsor of numerous State championship softball and baseball teams; and

WHEREAS, He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles 3515 in Carthage, Hancock County Lodge #20 A.F. & A.M., Quincy Valley Consistory Scottish Rite Masonry, Mohammed Temple A.A.O.N.M.S, Hancock County 4-H Building and Grounds Committee, and the Firestone National Dealer Council; he was a member of the Illinois Tractor Pullers Association, and served as M.C. for tractor pulls and other public events across the Midwest; he was the 1997 recipient of the Donald Forsythe Citizen of the Year award; for many years, Tom co-chaired the Fourth of July parade in Carthage and was M.C. for the Carthage Fourth of July celebration; he was grand marshal of the 2003 parade, an honor he shared with Verlyn Bethard; and

WHEREAS, His passing has been deeply felt by many, especially his wife, Margaret; his sons, Michael T. (Cindy) Menn, Rodger J. (Debbie) Menn, Robert L. (Jane) Menn, and Mark L. (Marta) Menn; his grandchildren, Kristin (Sid) Huls, Kaylee Menn, Allison (Jeff) Martin, Christopher, Thomas J., Kaleb, Lucas, and Jacob Menn; his step grandchildren, Matthew and Kevin Richardson, and Amber Sims; his great-grandchildren, Nolan and Cooper Martin; and his step great-grandchildren, Hannah, Logan, and Emma Sims; he was preceded in death by his parents, an infant grandson, and a brother, James Menn; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Thomas L. "Tom" "T.L." Menn, and we extend our deepest sympathy to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Thomas L. "Tom" "T.L." Menn as an expression of our sincerest condolences during their time of loss.
