| WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois |
| 3 |
| learned with regret of the death of Thomas L. "Tom" "T.L." Menn |
| 4 |
| of Carthage on Saturday, July 3, 2004; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Menn was born on June 17, 1921 in Quincy to |
| 6 |
| George L. and Blanche M. Ruths Menn; he married Margaret Jo |
| 7 |
| Cleaver on June 3, 1945 in Perry, Missouri; and
|
| 8 |
| WHEREAS, He went through school in Quincy, and in 1947, he |
| 9 |
| started Menn's Firestone Store in Carthage; he was affiliated |
| 10 |
| with the Firestone Tire and Rubber Company for 67 years; and
|
| 11 |
| WHEREAS, He was a member of the First United Presbyterian |
| 12 |
| Church of Carthage, where he served on numerous boards and |
| 13 |
| committees; he was the chairman of the Carthage 125th |
| 14 |
| anniversary celebration in 1962; he served on the Memorial |
| 15 |
| Hospital Board and the Carthage School Board, was a member of |
| 16 |
| the Carthage Chamber of Commerce, a past State president of the |
| 17 |
| Illinois Jaycees, past adult Boy Scouts of America volunteer, |
| 18 |
| and was a sponsor of numerous State championship softball and |
| 19 |
| baseball teams; and
|
| 20 |
| WHEREAS, He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles |
| 21 |
| 3515 in Carthage, Hancock County Lodge #20 A.F. & A.M., Quincy |
| 22 |
| Valley Consistory Scottish Rite Masonry, Mohammed Temple |
| 23 |
| A.A.O.N.M.S, Hancock County 4-H Building and Grounds |
| 24 |
| Committee, and the Firestone National Dealer Council; he was a |
| 25 |
| member of the Illinois Tractor Pullers Association, and served |
| 26 |
| as M.C. for tractor pulls and other public events across the |
| 27 |
| Midwest; he was the 1997 recipient of the Donald Forsythe |
| 28 |
| Citizen of the Year award; for many years, Tom co-chaired the |
| 29 |
| Fourth of July parade in Carthage and was M.C. for the Carthage |
| 30 |
| Fourth of July celebration; he was grand marshal of the 2003 |
| 31 |
| parade, an honor he shared with Verlyn Bethard; and
