| WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois |
| 3 |
| learned with sadness of the death of Evelyn J. (Mohart) |
| 4 |
| Wakeland Bartylak of Godfrey on Wednesday, August 18, 2004; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, Mrs. Bartylak was born on September 22, 1920 in |
| 6 |
| Hamilton to Theodore H. and Neta (Wedding) Mohart; and
|
| 7 |
| WHEREAS, The wife of Joseph R. Bartylak, she spent time as |
| 8 |
| a child welfare caseworker in Missouri; later, she became a |
| 9 |
| gerontological caseworker in St. Louis, having implemented the |
| 10 |
| Teamsters Council Housing for Retired Persons; she also |
| 11 |
| conducted seminars in Hawaii and nationally regarding housing |
| 12 |
| for the elderly; and
|
| 13 |
| WHEREAS, She was educated in Illinois and Missouri, |
| 14 |
| including at St. Louis University, Washington University, and |
| 15 |
| Western Illinois University in Macomb; she obtained her medical |
| 16 |
| technician degree from Pasteur Institute in St. Louis; and
|
| 17 |
| WHEREAS, Mrs. Bartylak joined the First Presbyterian |
| 18 |
| Church of Alton in 1977 and served as an elder, deacon, and |
| 19 |
| Sunday school teacher; she was a board member of Saint |
| 20 |
| Anthony's Home Health Care Group, was a board member of the |
| 21 |
| Alton Museum of History and Art, and was a former member of |
| 22 |
| Habitat for Humanity, Alton Woman's Council, and Lewis and |
| 23 |
| Clark Foundation; she was an amateur artist and musically |
| 24 |
| talented, devoting hours of music therapy to nursing and |
| 25 |
| veterans homes; she was known for her community activism and |
| 26 |
| her delicious cheesecake and canned sweet pickles; and
|
| 27 |
| WHEREAS, Her passing has been deeply felt by many, |
| 28 |
| especially her husband, Joseph R. Bartylak; her daughter, Mimi |
| 29 |
| Chandler/Patrick; her son, the Rev. T. Michel Wakeland and his |
| 30 |
| wife, Cynthia Hancock Wakeland; her stepdaughters, Diane B. |
