| WHEREAS, The members of the Senate have learned with great |
| 3 |
| sadness that Albert A. Apa of Springfield died on September 21, |
| 4 |
| 2004; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Apa was born in Chicago on June 5, 1921, the |
| 6 |
| son of Michael J. and Rose Marie Tenuta Apa; and |
| 7 |
| WHEREAS, in 1949 Mr. Apa married Betty Jones, she preceded |
| 8 |
| him in death and, in 1988, Mr. Apa married Diane Atterberry; |
| 9 |
| and |
| 10 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Apa served in the U.S. Army during World War |
| 11 |
| II, he received a Purple Heart, a Bronze Star Medal, a Victory |
| 12 |
| Medal, and a European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon; |
| 13 |
| and |
| 14 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Apa worked for the Chicago Police Department |
| 15 |
| for 32 years, having achieved the rank of sergeant; he retired |
| 16 |
| as the Executive Director of the Illinois Law Enforcement |
| 17 |
| Training and Standards Board in 1992 after 13 years of service; |
| 18 |
| and |
| 19 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Apa received the Award of Excellence in Law |
| 20 |
| Enforcement Training for Lifetime Achievement, he was a member |
| 21 |
| of the Italian American Police Association and the VFW Post 32, |
| 22 |
| and he served on the board for the Illinois Criminal Justice |
| 23 |
| Information Authority and the advisory board of the Federal Law |
| 24 |
| Enforcement Training Center in Glencoe, Georgia; and |
| 25 |
| WHEREAS, The death of Albert A. Apa is a great loss to his |
| 26 |
| family and friends, including his loving wife Diane, his |
| 27 |
| daughter Candice Sue (Dennis) Enders, his sons Rick (Janet) and |
| 28 |
| Chad (Teresa) Gooch, his five grandchildren, his sister Grace |
| 29 |
| Apa, his brother Victor (Marie) Apa, his two nephews, and his |
