| WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois |
| 3 |
| learned with sadness of the death of V. Bruce Morrison of |
| 4 |
| O'Fallon on Tuesday, December 7, 2004; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, He was born May 25, 1929, in East St. Louis to |
| 6 |
| Velmer Bruce and Mary Madaline, nee Latham; and
|
| 7 |
| WHEREAS, Bruce served in law enforcement for 50 years, |
| 8 |
| beginning his career as a special agent for Nickle Plate |
| 9 |
| Railroad; in 1961, he became employed by the East St. Louis |
| 10 |
| Police Department, where he retired after 21 years of service |
| 11 |
| as chief of police (colonel) in 1982; he was appointed |
| 12 |
| undersheriff of St. Clair County by Sheriff Mearl Justus more |
| 13 |
| recently; and
|
| 14 |
| WHEREAS, Chief Morrison was a member of Swansea Church |
| 15 |
| (formerly Lakeview Baptist Church), the Illinois Police |
| 16 |
| Chief's Association, the Illinois Sheriff's Association, the |
| 17 |
| Illinois Police Association, the Fraternal Order of Police |
| 18 |
| (former member), the Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis area |
| 19 |
| (30-year member), East Lodge 504 AF & AM (50-year member), |
| 20 |
| Ainad Temple (50-year member), Scottish Rite Bodies Valley of |
| 21 |
| Southern Illinois, Rob Morris 98 Order of Eastern Star, and he |
| 22 |
| was a board member of the East St. Louis Pension Fund; and
|
| 23 |
| WHEREAS, The passing of Chief Morrison has been deeply felt |
| 24 |
| by many, especially his wife of 57 years, Shirley, nee Cook, |
| 25 |
| Morrison; his daughter, Sandy (Pleas) Muckensturm-Griffin; his |
| 26 |
| grandson, Bruce A. Morrison; his sister, Mary Frances Cornwall; |
| 27 |
| his brother-in-law, Charles (Geraldine) Cook; his |
| 28 |
| sisters-in-law, Karen (Robert) Penn and Sharon (Charles) |
| 29 |
| Riess; his nieces, nephews, and cousins; and his dog, Angel; he |
| 30 |
| was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, William |
| 31 |
| Morrison; therefore, be it |
