Creates the Internet Voting Commission Act.
Creates a commission appointed by the legislative leaders to study
and recommend to the General Assembly a system of
voting via the Internet at elections in 2008 and thereafter.
Abolishes the commission and repeals the Act January 1, 2007. Effective
immediately.

| AN ACT concerning elections.
|
2 |
| Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, |
3 |
| represented in the General Assembly:
|

| Section 1. Short title. This Act may be cited as the |
5 |
| Internet Voting
Commission Act.
|
6 |
| Section 5. Commission created. The Internet Voting |
7 |
| Commission is created,
consisting of 8 members of the General |
8 |
| Assembly and 8 public members. The
President and Minority |
9 |
| Leader of the Senate and the Speaker and Minority Leader
of the |
10 |
| House of Representatives shall each appoint 2 legislative |
11 |
| members and 2
public members.
|
12 |
| The Internet Voting Commission shall study and recommend to |
13 |
| the General
Assembly a system of voting
via the Internet at |
14 |
| elections in 2008 and thereafter.
The Internet system of voting |
15 |
| shall supplement and not replace existing voting
systems.

| The Commission shall
designate a chairman from among its |
17 |
| number, shall meet as frequently as
necessary at the call of |
18 |
| the chair, and shall report its findings to the
General |
19 |
| Assembly as expeditiously as possible.
Commission |
20 |
| recommendations shall take effect upon the effective date of a
|
21 |
| Public Act that enacts them.
|
22 |
| Commission members shall receive no compensation but shall |
23 |
| be reimbursed
for expenses incurred in the performance of their |
24 |
| duties from funds
appropriated for that purpose.
|
25 |
| The Commission is abolished January 1, 2007.
|
26 |
| Section 10. Repeal. This Act is repealed January 1, 2007.

| Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon |
28 |
| becoming law. |
