| AN ACT concerning education.
|

| Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, |
3 |
| represented in the General Assembly:
|

| Section 5. The Public Community College Act is amended by |
5 |
| changing Section 2-1 as follows:
|

| Sec. 2-1. There is created the
the Illinois Community |
8 |
| College Board
hereinafter referred to as the "State Board". The |
9 |
| State Board shall
consist of 12 members as follows: a nonvoting |
10 |
| student member selected by
the recognized advisory committee of |
11 |
| students of the Illinois Community
College Board, this student |
12 |
| to serve for a term of one year beginning on
July 1 of each |
13 |
| year, except that the student member initially selected
shall |
14 |
| serve a term beginning on the date of such selection and |
15 |
| expiring on
the next succeeding June 30, and except that any |
16 |
| student member or former
student member may be selected by the |
17 |
| recognized advisory committee of
students of the State Board to |
18 |
| serve a second term as the nonvoting student
member of the |
19 |
| State Board; and 11 members, one of whom shall be a senior
|
20 |
| citizen age 60 or over, to be appointed by the Governor by and |
21 |
| with the
advice and consent of the Senate. The members first |
22 |
| appointed under this
amendatory Act of 1984 shall serve for a |
23 |
| term of 6 years. After the
expiration of the terms of the |
24 |
| office of the members first appointed to the
State Board, their |
25 |
| respective successors shall hold office for a term of 6
years |
26 |
| and until their successors are qualified and seated. In the |
27 |
| event of
vacancies on the State Board in offices appointed by |
28 |
| the Governor occurring
during a recess of the Senate, the |
29 |
| Governor shall have the power to make
temporary appointments |
30 |
| until the next meeting of the Senate, when the
vacancy shall be |
31 |
| filled by nomination to be confirmed by the Senate. |
