Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code. Provides that any person who, for the purpose of obtaining or renewing a military special license plate, falsely and knowingly claims either to have been awarded a military decoration or to be on active duty in the United States Armed Forces or a military veteran is guilty of a Class A misdemeanor and shall, in addition to any other penalty, be fined not less than $1,000.

| AN ACT concerning transportation.
|

| Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
| 3 |
| represented in the General Assembly:
|

| Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by adding |
| 5 |
| Section 3-712 as follows: |

| (625 ILCS 5/3-712 new) |
| 7 |
| Sec. 3-712. Fraudulent application for military special |
| 8 |
| plates. Any person who, for the purpose of obtaining or |
| 9 |
| renewing a special license plate designating military |
| 10 |
| decorations, military service, or status as a military veteran, |
| 11 |
| claims (i) to have been awarded a military decoration, knowing |
| 12 |
| that he or she has not been awarded that decoration, or (ii) to |
| 13 |
| be on active duty in the United States Armed Forces or a |
| 14 |
| military veteran, knowing that he or she does not have the |
| 15 |
| status required for the registration for which he or she has |
| 16 |
| applied, is guilty of a Class A misdemeanor and shall, in |
| 17 |
| addition to any other penalty, be fined not less than $1,000.
