| WHEREAS, Little Company of Mary Hospital and Health Care |
| 3 |
| Centers will celebrate its 75th anniversary on January 19, |
| 4 |
| 2005; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, Three Sisters of the Little Company of Mary came |
| 6 |
| to the United States in 1893 at the request of a Chicago civic |
| 7 |
| leader whose wife had been cared for by the Sisters in Rome; |
| 8 |
| the Sisters continued caring for the sick and dying in the |
| 9 |
| Chicagoland area for 37 years before building the original |
| 10 |
| Little Company of Mary Hospital in 1930; in 1950, Little |
| 11 |
| Company had the distinction of creating worldwide medical |
| 12 |
| history, when three of its physicians performed the very first |
| 13 |
| kidney transplant; and
|
| 14 |
| WHEREAS, The hospital's compassion for the sick is |
| 15 |
| deep-rooted; Little Company's Foundress, Venerable Mary |
| 16 |
| Potter, fought a personal battle with cancer; Little Company |
| 17 |
| was one of the first hospitals to offer hospice care to the |
| 18 |
| metropolitan Chicago community in the 1970s; in 2004, Little |
| 19 |
| Company reached the milestone birth of its 200,000th baby |
| 20 |
| alumni - more than any other hospital in the Southwest Suburbs - |
| 21 |
| to continue its heritage as "The Baby Hospital"; today the |
| 22 |
| commitment of the hospital and health care centers to caring |
| 23 |
| for the sick is as strong as ever, especially with its new |
| 24 |
| Cancer Center affiliated with the University of Chicago |
| 25 |
| Hospitals; and
|
| 26 |
| WHEREAS, Little Company of Mary Hospital and Health Care |
| 27 |
| Centers offer a heritage of faith-based care that focuses as |
| 28 |
| much on technology as the spiritual connection of prayer; the |
| 29 |
| organization looks toward a future that draws on the experience |
| 30 |
| and spiritual strength of the past, combined with the knowledge |
| 31 |
| and scientific advances that will aid in its continuing mission |
| 32 |
| of providing compassionate care; therefore, be it
