HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Pat Indovina, a long-time Glenview resident and 22-year Grove School veteran, received the 2004 Elementary Art Educator of the Year award from the Illinois Art Education Association; and

WHEREAS, She discovered her passion for art when her parents signed her up for after-school art classes as a youngster; the Michigan native continued with art classes through high school, and later focused on print-making and watercolors in the School of Architecture and Design at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor; before coming to Grove School, she taught art for 10 years at Northbrook's Indian Ridge School; and

WHEREAS, During three decades as a teacher, Pat has welcomed into her art room exciting new materials, but her fundamental teaching strategies have not changed, it has always been her goal to help students realize their creative abilities; and

WHEREAS, Over the years, she has learned how to incorporate computer technology into her classes, while preserving the "hands-on" nature of the lessons, as well as teaching traditional photography; a student digital photo project of fall foliage earned Pat and a colleague recognition from the State of Illinois Technology "Tech 2004" Conference; she has also worked with her colleagues to craft lessons that link art with other subjects; and

WHEREAS, Kathryn Hillyer, President of the Illinois Art Education Association, said she was impressed by how Pat has embraced technology in her curriculum and "the work she does to make sure all children are included, regardless of their abilities; she sparks the kids' interest; she gets the kids to do things, it is the children's work, but she inspires them"; and

WHEREAS, Outside of the classroom, Pat is president of the District 27 Faculty Association and has served on her district's professional development and insurance committees; and

WHEREAS, Pat has been married to Tony Indovina for 32 years, and they are the proud parents of three daughters, Lauren, Sarah, and Elizabeth; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Pat Indovina on her receipt of the 2004 Elementary Art Educator of the Year award from the Illinois Art Education Association; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Pat Indovina as an expression of our respect and esteem and our thanks for her continuing innovative, inspirational, and interdisciplinary teaching of art to her students.
