| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|

| WHEREAS, Lou Henson retired as a Division I Head Basketball |
| 3 |
| Coach on Saturday, January 22, 2005; he retired with 779 career |
| 4 |
| Division I wins, the sixth most wins registered for a Division |
| 5 |
| I head coach; and
|
| 6 |
| WHEREAS, Coach Henson won 423 games as the Head Coach of |
| 7 |
| the University of Illinois Men's Basketball Team from 1976 |
| 8 |
| until 1996; he led the Fighting Illini to 12 NCAA tournaments |
| 9 |
| in 21 seasons, including a Final Four appearance in 1989; and
|
| 10 |
| WHEREAS, Coach Henson was named the ESPN National Head |
| 11 |
| Coach of the Year in 1984 and the Big Ten Coach of the Year in |
| 12 |
| 1993; and
|
| 13 |
| WHEREAS, He retired from the University of Illinois in |
| 14 |
| 1996, but then returned to college basketball the next year to |
| 15 |
| lead his alma mater, New Mexico State University, as their Head |
| 16 |
| Coach; he was a defensive specialist, starting guard for the |
| 17 |
| Aggies, and graduated from NMSU in 1955 with a bachelor's |
| 18 |
| degree in secondary education; he earned his master's degree in |
| 19 |
| educational administration from NMSU in 1956; and
|
| 20 |
| WHEREAS, Coach Lou Henson has earned the respect and esteem |
| 21 |
| of his colleagues, his players, the fans, and the members of |
| 22 |
| this Body; therefore, be it
|

| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 24 |
| NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
| 25 |
| we congratulate Coach Lou Henson on the occasion of his |
| 26 |
| retirement, and we honor him for his great contributions to |
| 27 |
| college basketball, especially in the State of Illinois; and be |
| 28 |
