HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the State of Illinois wish to congratulate Gerald L. Farley on the occasion of his retirement as mayor of Mount Prospect; and

WHEREAS, Gerald "Skip" Farley served the Village of Mount Prospect for the past 16 years as mayor; during his tenure as mayor there have been many accomplishments, including building and occupying a new Village Hall and the renovation of downtown Mount Prospect; and

WHEREAS, Mayor Farley served as President of the Northwest Municipal Conference in 1997 and also served on its Executive Committee, Legislative Committee, and Finance Committee, and was a member of the Cook County Storm Water Management Commission; he was also a member of the United States Conference of Mayors; and

WHEREAS, Acknowledging the importance of international friendship, Mayor Farley initiated an exchange with sister city Savres, France; and

WHEREAS, Mayor Farley has continually advocated for cultural, religious, and racial understanding within the Village and received the 2002 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. "Excellence in Leadership" Award; and

WHEREAS, Mayor Farley championed a Village-wide flood control program and initiated a ten-year, multi-million dollar, local road program to improve the overall condition of Mount Prospect roads; and

WHEREAS, Mayor Farley has been a resident of Mount Prospect for 32 years and previously served in other capacities in the community, including on the Village of Mount Prospect Plan Commission, 1978-1979, and as a Village of Mount Prospect Trustee, 1979-1980; and

WHEREAS, Before coming to Mount Prospect, Mr. Farley served as Executive Director, American Association of Senior Physicians, and also served on the Indianaola, Iowa School Board for six years, two years as president; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Farley served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955; He is married to Janice and has two children and six grandchildren; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Mount Prospect Mayor Gerald "Skip" Farley on the occasion of his retirement and thank him for his dedication to the citizens of Mount Prospect; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Gerald L. Farley as a token of our respect and esteem with best wishes for an enjoyable and fulfilling retirement.
