| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|
| 2 |
| WHEREAS, The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), |
| 3 |
| which also operates Illinois limited-access highways, has |
| 4 |
| erected informational signs before key limited-access highway |
| 5 |
| exits announcing the presence of local places of lodging, |
| 6 |
| eating, motor fuel, and points of local public interest; and
|
| 7 |
| WHEREAS, Owners/operators of places of lodging are |
| 8 |
| Illinois taxpayers that pay a special 5.64% tax to the State on |
| 9 |
| their gross receipts; and
|
| 10 |
| WHEREAS, Restaurants and fast-food outlets pay full |
| 11 |
| Illinois sales taxes of 6.25% on the food and beverages they |
| 12 |
| sell; and
|
| 13 |
| WHEREAS, Motor fuel retailers pay full Illinois sales taxes |
| 14 |
| and a motor fuel tax of 20.1 cents per gallon on the motor fuel |
| 15 |
| they sell; and
|
| 16 |
| WHEREAS, Because these businesses pay these taxes, it is in |
| 17 |
| Illinois' interest that these retailers be allowed to share |
| 18 |
| their presence with motorists on Illinois toll highways; |
| 19 |
| therefore, be it
|
| 20 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 21 |
| NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
| 22 |
| we ask the Illinois Toll Highway Authority to work with |
| 23 |
| travel-oriented private enterprises that do business in |
| 24 |
| proximity to tollway entrances and exits to ensure that these |
| 25 |
| businesses can make their presence known to motorists; and be |
| 26 |
| it further

| RESOLVED, That a copy of the resolution should be presented |
| 28 |
| to the Executive Director of the Illinois Toll Highway |
| 29 |
| Authority.
