| WHEREAS, Rotary International was founded in Chicago on |
| 3 |
| February 23, 1905, and is the world's first and largest |
| 4 |
| nonprofit service organization; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, More than 1.2 million Rotary Club members |
| 6 |
| comprised of professional and business leaders in more than |
| 7 |
| 31,000 clubs in more than 165 countries make up the |
| 8 |
| organization; and
|
| 9 |
| WHEREAS, The Carlyle Rotary Club was chartered in 1926 as |
| 10 |
| the 3,303rd chapter and continues to inspire members to provide |
| 11 |
| humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards, and |
| 12 |
| promote good will and peace throughout the world; and
|
| 13 |
| WHEREAS, Rotary funds club projects and sponsors |
| 14 |
| volunteers with community expertise to provide medical |
| 15 |
| supplies, health care, clean water, food production, job |
| 16 |
| training, and education to millions in need, particularly in |
| 17 |
| developing countries; and
|
| 18 |
| WHEREAS, In 1985, Rotary launched Polio Plus and |
| 19 |
| spearheaded efforts with the World Health Organization, U.S. |
| 20 |
| Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and UNICEF to |
| 21 |
| immunize the children of the world against polio; cases of |
| 22 |
| polio have dropped by 99 percent since 1988, and the world |
| 23 |
| stands on the threshold of eradicating the disease; and
|
| 24 |
| WHEREAS, Rotary Club is the world's largest privately |
| 25 |
| funded source of international scholarships and promotes |
| 26 |
| international understanding through scholarships, exchange |
| 27 |
| programs, and humanitarian grants; more than 46,000 young |
| 28 |
| professionals have explored career fields in other countries |
| 29 |
| through the Rotary Group Study Exchange Program; about 8,000 |
| 30 |
| high school students experience life in another country through |
