| HOUSE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 |
| Representatives congratulate Patrick Hennessy of Chicago on |
| 4 |
| the occasion of his 85th birthday on April 26, 2005; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Hennessy has been a lifelong Democrat and is |
| 6 |
| proud that he never voted anything else; he was the youngest of |
| 7 |
| twelve children born in Kilkenny, Ireland in 1920; he was a |
| 8 |
| Hurling Champion, playing on the All Ireland Team for two |
| 9 |
| years, in 1935 and 1936; and
|
| 10 |
| WHEREAS, He immigrated to Chicago over 50 years ago; he |
| 11 |
| worked for the Mayors Office of the City of Chicago for 35 |
| 12 |
| years and served as a community coordinator and a leading voice |
| 13 |
| for Chicago Area Irish Americans; and
|
| 14 |
| WHEREAS, He has written columns for the Irish Newspapers |
| 15 |
| for more than 50 years; he wrote for the Irish Echo for 40 |
| 16 |
| years and for the Irish American News for the past 11 years; he |
| 17 |
| has kept readers abreast of the Gaelic Happenings in the |
| 18 |
| Chicago Area; and
|
| 19 |
| WHEREAS, In 1949, Mr. Hennessy was elected Chairman of the |
| 20 |
| Chicago Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) and entrusted with |
| 21 |
| the task of reactivating the GAA in Chicago and the Midwest; |
| 22 |
| and
|
| 23 |
| WHEREAS, He has worked tirelessly toward the cannonization |
| 24 |
| of Edmund Rice; therefore, be it
|
| 25 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 26 |
| NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
| 27 |
| we extend our heartiest congratulations and best wishes to |
| 28 |
| Patrick Hennessy on the occasion of his 85th birthday; that we |

| commend him for achieving a long and fulfilling life, and we |
