HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Lee Jessup is retiring from his position as principal of Lincoln Trail Elementary School following the 2004-2005 school year; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Jessup taught at Glenn Elementary School in Normal from 1972 to 1974; he worked as a history teacher at Parkside Junior High in Normal from 1974 to 1978, where he was also the football and wrestling coach; he also coached wrestling at Chiddix in Normal; and

WHEREAS, He is an IHSA Wrestling Official and served as principal at Seymour Grade School from 1978 to 1981; he was Director of Transportation in 1980; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Jessup began his 24 years of service as principal at Lincoln Trail Elementary in 1981; while at Lincoln Trail, he oversaw three building projects to accommodate expansion; he was instrumental in the passing of a number of referenda to enhance buildings and education in the district; he helped facilitate "Hands Around the World" to teach students about cultural differences; he organized a "Veteran's Appreciation Assembly" to recognize all military veterans and teach students to appreciate their sacrifices and to be thankful for their freedom; and

WHEREAS, He is active in his community, having served on Mahomet Village Board from 1984 to 1988; he secured grant funding for a project to enhance Main Street (lighting and sidewalks); he has served as a volunteer firefighter/EMT/public information officer at Cornbelt Fire Protection District from 1984 until the present; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Jessup took eighth grade students from Mahomet to Washington, D.C., each year from 1985 through 1996 and from Normal in the late 1970s; he is a member of Mahomet United Methodist Church, including teaching Sunday School Classes for Jr. & Sr. High and organizing the youth group Trick-or-Treat for Helping Hands; and

WHEREAS, He helped an anonymous group organize and deliver food baskets at Thanksgiving for less fortunate community members; he has been and still is an excellent father to three boys and one girl, in whom he instilled a desire to help others and do what is right no matter what; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Mr. Lee Jessup on the occasion of his retirement after 33 years in education, and we thank him for his many years of dedication to the education of young people; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Mr. Jessup as an expression of our respect and esteem and with best wishes for a relaxing retirement.
