| HOUSE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, On April 25, 2005, Thomas Lyons will be retiring |
| 3 |
| from service on the Orland School District 135 Board of |
| 4 |
| Education; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, He has served for eight years on the board, |
| 6 |
| including three years as Vice President and two years as |
| 7 |
| President; he has chaired the Finance, Building, Planning, and |
| 8 |
| Negotiations committees and served on the Policy and Community |
| 9 |
| Relations committees; he was District 135's liaison to the |
| 10 |
| village board and participated in the Subcommittee on |
| 11 |
| Attendance Boundaries; and
|
| 12 |
| WHEREAS, During his tenure with the board, District 135 has |
| 13 |
| seen many notable achievements; among them are the opening of |
| 14 |
| Meadow Ridge School, the completion of the Orland Junior High |
| 15 |
| School renovation, improvements to school libraries and |
| 16 |
| playgrounds, and maintaining quality environments in all 10 |
| 17 |
| schools; he has been instrumental in the development and |
| 18 |
| implementation of a long-range plan for student achievement, as |
| 19 |
| well as in the evaluation and restructuring of all district |
| 20 |
| curriculums to align them with State standards and continue |
| 21 |
| consistency of instruction in all of the district's schools; |
| 22 |
| and
|
| 23 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Lyons exemplifies the teamwork of the Board of |
| 24 |
| Education and the administration in allocating the district's |
| 25 |
| resources to maintain and enhance both programs and facilities |
| 26 |
| over the years, even in the face of dwindling revenues, a |
| 27 |
| dilemma that is affecting school districts throughout the |
| 28 |
| State; and |
| 29 |
| WHEREAS, He is married to Nancy and is the father of Kelly, |
| 30 |
| Tim, and Tracy; therefore, be it
