HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, State Farm Insurance Company's mission is to help people manage the risks of everyday life, recover from the unexpected, and realize their dreams; and

WHEREAS, Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for children between the ages of 2 and 14 years; and

WHEREAS, 1,543 children were killed and more than 227,000 children were injured in automobile accidents in 2002; and

WHEREAS, State Farm has partnered with The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia to develop the Partners for Child Passenger Safety, the first academic-corporate partnership devoted to the safety of children in motor vehicles; and

WHEREAS, Partners for Child Passenger Safety is committed to improving automotive restraint design and educating policy makers and parents to increase safety for children; and

WHEREAS, Partners of Child Passenger Safety has studied more than 223,000 accidents involving 336,000 children in an effort to improve the safety of children in automobiles; and

WHEREAS, State Farm is sponsoring its fifth annual Child Passenger Safety Day on Saturday, May 14, 2005, to show parents how to properly install and use child restraint systems; and

WHEREAS, State Farm Child Passenger Safety Day is being held across the United States and in 13 separate locations throughout Illinois including Bloomington, Bradley, Champaign, Chicago, East St. Louis, Joliet, Macomb, Moline, Peru, and Springfield; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we recognize and applaud State Farm Insurance for conducting its fifth annual State Farm Child Passenger Safety Day and encourage parents and families to take advantage of this opportunity to ensure the safety of their children; and be it further

RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be presented to State Farm Insurance.
