HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Marilyn Kay Johnson of Macomb is retiring from her position as Executive Secretary to the President/Secretary to the Board of Trustees at Western Illinois University in Macomb after nearly 40 years of service; and

WHEREAS, She was born on May 27, 1946, in Rushville; she graduated from V.I.T. High School in Table Grove in 1964 and received a 2-Year Executive Secretary diploma from Midstate College of Commerce in Peoria in 1965; she married W. Garry Johnson on June 25, 1989; and

WHEREAS, In her current position as Executive Secretary, under supervision from the President and the Trustees, Mrs. Johnson is responsible for the daily operation and maintenance of the President's and Trustees' office, which requires the development, initiation, delegation, and coordination of work flow, assignments, and production; she makes decisions which represent the University, the President, and the Board on matters of importance and sensitivity to the institution; she works directly with the President and the Trustees, campus constituency groups, and community, regional, State, and other contacts to promote the objectives of the President and his office; and she deals with a complexity of campus operation concerns and as related to the University, community, regional, State, national, and International concerns; and

WHEREAS, Prior to working in her current position, she worked as a Clerk Stenographer and Personnel Assistant at Western, beginning in 1965; and

WHEREAS, She is active in both her community and in professional organizations and serves on the McDonough County 708 Board of Directors, the Western Athletic Club Board of Directors, and is a member of the WIU University Women's Club, the Women of Western; she has been actively involved in countless other boards and committees; and

WHEREAS, Along with her husband, Mrs. Johnson was the 1992 recipient of the Performing Arts Society's Ruth Watts Award; she also received Western Illinois University's Outstanding Community Service Award in April of 1992 and was named one of WIU's Women of Western during the Centennial Celebration in 1999; and

WHEREAS, She especially enjoys being with family and friends, water and sun activities, travel, reading, and writing; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Marilyn Kay Johnson on the occasion of her retirement, and we wish her well in all of her future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to her as an expression of our respect and esteem and with best wishes for a relaxing retirement.
