| HOUSE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, Dr. Elizabeth A. Ennis will retire as the |
| 3 |
| Superintendent of Township High School District 214 at the |
| 4 |
| completion of the school year; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, Dr. Ennis was the first female to be appointed |
| 6 |
| Principal and then Superintendent in District 214; she has |
| 7 |
| served as Superintendent from 1998 to 2005; and
|
| 8 |
| WHEREAS, District 214 serves 12,500 students and employs |
| 9 |
| 1,700 individuals in a variety of roles, including teachers, |
| 10 |
| administrators, clerical and instructional support personnel, |
| 11 |
| food service, and custodial maintenance personnel; the annual |
| 12 |
| budget is $205 million; and
|
| 13 |
| WHEREAS, She received a Bachelor of Science in Speech and |
| 14 |
| Theatre, a Master of Science in Secondary Education, and an |
| 15 |
| Education Specialist Degree in Education Administration from |
| 16 |
| Indiana University; she received a Doctor of Education in |
| 17 |
| School Administration and Policy Studies from the University of |
| 18 |
| Oklahoma; and
|
| 19 |
| WHEREAS, She has been a successful high school speech and |
| 20 |
| drama teacher, Assistant Principal, Principal in Indiana and |
| 21 |
| Illinois, Director of High Schools and Adult Education, |
| 22 |
| Graduate Assistant, Deputy Superintendent, and Superintendent; |
| 23 |
| and
|
| 24 |
| WHEREAS, During her tenure, the district has experienced |
| 25 |
| significant changes in curriculum, increased recruiting and |
| 26 |
| hiring of minority candidates, maintained a balanced budget, |
| 27 |
| introduced the Vanguard School and Newcomer Center, seen a rise |
| 28 |
| in test scores which remain above State and national levels, |
| 29 |
| and all facilities have been improved; and
