HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the State of Illinois join with Representative Monique Davis in congratulating Dr. Stanley Strom, Assistant Principal of Morgan Park High School, on the occasion of his retirement after 37 years of service with the Chicago Public Schools; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Strom began his career in January of 1968, when he was hired by the Chicago Board of Education to teach English and Spanish at Morgan Park High School; in 1971, he was appointed counselor at Morgan Park High School; he was later appointed director of curriculum and instruction for the District 18 Chicago Board of Education; and

WHEREAS, In 1974, he worked with Catholic pastors, the Beverly Area Planning Association, Beverly Bank, and the political community to establish the Morgan Park Catholic Youth Ministry and served on its board of directors; from 1978 to 2000, he served as a part time assistant professor of education at National Louis University; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Strom was appointed coordinator of a drop out prevention program at Bowen High School in 1981, and in 1982, he returned to Morgan Park to begin the 7-12 Academic Center; he was appointed assistant principal in charge of day to day operations at Morgan Park High School in 1997; and

WHEREAS, He was the 1985 recipient of the Aquin Guild Catholic Educator of the Year Award, and he was named the University of Illinois at Chicago Counselor of the Year in both 1995 and 1996; he went on to receive the Assistant Principals Association Distinguished Leadership Award in 2001; and

WHEREAS, In 2003, he was ordained a Catholic Deacon for the Archdiocese of Chicago and was appointed to serve at Holy Name Cathedral; upon his retirement, he will take on that position in a full-time capacity; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Dr. Stanley Strom on the occasion of his retirement, and we thank him for his many years of dedication to educating students in the State of Illinois; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Dr. Strom as an expression of our respect and esteem and with best wishes for successful future endeavors.
