| HOUSE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the |
| 3 |
| State of Illinois are pleased to congratulate Patricia Ann Way, |
| 4 |
| a Special Education teacher at Nelson Mandela Elementary |
| 5 |
| School, on the occasion of her retirement after 38 years in |
| 6 |
| education; and
|
| 7 |
| WHEREAS, In 1967, Mrs. Way was employed by East St. Louis |
| 8 |
| School District 189 as an English, Speech, and Drama teacher at |
| 9 |
| Lincoln High School; she later received her Masters in Special |
| 10 |
| Education and has continued to work in that field through her |
| 11 |
| retirement; and
|
| 12 |
| WHEREAS, To enhance her teaching experience, she traveled |
| 13 |
| to China, Japan, and South America and has presented workshops |
| 14 |
| to other teachers about her travels; she also is trained and |
| 15 |
| serves as a paramedic; and
|
| 16 |
| WHEREAS, Mrs. Way is active in the school and in the |
| 17 |
| community; at the school, she served on several committees, |
| 18 |
| including Art, Spelling Bee, Social Studies, Elementary Arts |
| 19 |
| Curriculum K-12, East St. Louis History, Graduation, |
| 20 |
| Christmas, Retirement, and Decorations for all seasons; she is |
| 21 |
| also an Art Museum Friend, Botanical Gardens Friends, Missouri |
| 22 |
| History Museum Friend, and a Friend of the Symphony; and
|
| 23 |
| WHEREAS, She has given generously of her time and resources |
| 24 |
| to Nelson Mandela School and the community; she has been |
| 25 |
| recognized for her service by School District 189's Fine Arts |
| 26 |
| Department, Special Education Department, and Social Studies |
| 27 |
| Department, as well as the International Education Consortium |
| 28 |
| and the Federal Reserve - Education Division; she is the proud |
| 29 |
| mother of two successful sons and grandmother of six; |
