| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|
| 2 |
| WHEREAS, It recently came to light that 2 State agencies |
| 3 |
| disposed of documents without shredding or otherwise |
| 4 |
| effectively destroying the documents, and the information |
| 5 |
| contained in the documents was exposed and available to the |
| 6 |
| public; and
|
| 7 |
| WHEREAS, At a time when identity theft and invasion of |
| 8 |
| privacy are problems of increasing magnitude, it is essential |
| 9 |
| that the State and its agencies safeguard confidential |
| 10 |
| information in its custody; therefore, be it
|
| 11 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 12 |
| NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
| 13 |
| the Auditor General is directed to study the best practices of |
| 14 |
| other states in implementing controls to ensure the proper |
| 15 |
| disposal of confidential information; and be it further
|
| 16 |
| RESOLVED, That the Auditor General is directed to commence |
| 17 |
| the study and report the results upon completion in accordance |
| 18 |
| with the provisions of Section 3-14 of the Illinois State |
| 19 |
| Auditing Act; and be it further
|
| 20 |
| RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to |
| 21 |
| the Auditor General.
