| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|

| WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the |
| 3 |
| State of Illinois are pleased to congratulate Westville Mayor |
| 4 |
| Mike Weese on the occasion of his retirement; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, Mayor Weese moved to Westville in 1973; his |
| 6 |
| service to the village began in November of that year, when he |
| 7 |
| joined the police department as a part-time officer; he spent |
| 8 |
| most weekends for the next 18 years patrolling the village |
| 9 |
| streets and watching the village's taverns; and
|
| 10 |
| WHEREAS, During those 18 years, Mayor Weese was temporarily |
| 11 |
| promoted three times; he spent a year as a full-time night |
| 12 |
| captain for the village in 1981; he was named acting police |
| 13 |
| chief in 1986, when the regular chief was hospitalized; and he |
| 14 |
| returned to the post in 1990, while the board was looking for a |
| 15 |
| replacement for a chief who had resigned; and
|
| 16 |
| WHEREAS, He was elected to the village board in 1991, then |
| 17 |
| successfully ran for mayor two years later; during his tenure |
| 18 |
| as mayor, he has overseen the replacement of some 1920s-era |
| 19 |
| water lines along Illinois Route 1 through the village, the |
| 20 |
| creation of a zoning ordinance and a zoning board of appeals, |
| 21 |
| the opening of the museum in the train depot south of the |
| 22 |
| village square, the moving of the police department into a |
| 23 |
| separate building east of the village hall, and the replacement |
| 24 |
| of some outdated village equipment and vehicles; therefore, be |

| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |

| NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
| 28 |
| we congratulate Mayor Mike Weese on the occasion of his |
| 29 |
| retirement, and we thank him for his many years of dedication |
| 30 |
