| WHEREAS, The Mautino name has been a part of Bureau County |
| 3 |
| history since 1905; Anton and Mary Ottino Mautino came to |
| 4 |
| America that year, settling in Spring Valley; along with their |
| 5 |
| son, Frank "Mule", they had two other children, Mrs. John |
| 6 |
| (Jean) Pini and Mrs. James (Madelon) Andreoni, of Spring |
| 7 |
| Valley; and
|
| 8 |
| WHEREAS, In 1905, Anton started in business with the Star |
| 9 |
| Union Brewing Company; after the repeal of prohibition in 1934, |
| 10 |
| he was a Star Model Distributor; Mule took over in 1947 and |
| 11 |
| established Mautino Distributing Co. with two employees; and
|
| 12 |
| WHEREAS, In 1951, Mule added Hamm's Beer to the |
| 13 |
| distributing list; he then acquired the Miller Brewing Co. |
| 14 |
| franchise in 1972, also adding wines, bar supplies, and |
| 15 |
| glassware for local retailers in addition to his own private |
| 16 |
| label of liquor; and
|
| 17 |
| WHEREAS, In 1972, the business was moved from 330 West |
| 18 |
| Dakota Street in Spring Valley, a 5,000 square foot warehouse, |
| 19 |
| to the present location at 500 North Richards Street, a 36,000
|
| 20 |
| square foot building; and
|
| 21 |
| WHEREAS, Mule's son, Tony Mautino, took over the management |
| 22 |
| and responsibilities for Mautino Distributing Co. in 1974, the |
| 23 |
| same year his brother, Richard A. Mautino Sr., was elected to |
| 24 |
| the Illinois General Assembly; that year the company had seven |
| 25 |
| employees, and later it had 27 employees; currently, the |
| 26 |
| company is up to 50 employees and still growing; and
|
| 27 |
| WHEREAS, The product line of the Mautino Distributing Co. |
| 28 |
| has expanded by selling a lot of juices, juice vending |
| 29 |
| machines, beer, and supplies; in January of 1985, the company |
| 30 |
| became a distributor of Coors beer; the business has expanded |
