HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Staley Credit Union of Decatur will celebrate 75 years of service to its members on July 7-9, 2005; and

WHEREAS, Several activities will commemorate the anniversary, including a breakfast, health checks, and a silent auction benefiting Children's Miracle Network; and

WHEREAS, A large anniversary celebration will take place July 9 and will feature inflatable rides, the Decatur Park Singers, singer Missy Vail, golf professional Steve Nickerson doing long drives and trick shots, and an invitation-only luncheon honoring members who have belonged to the Credit Union for 50 years or more; and

WHEREAS, Augustus E. Staley Sr., Andrew J. Percival, and several other employees of A.E. Staley Manufacturing Company founded Staley Credit Union in 1930; the Credit Union was chartered by the State of Illinois on July 7, 1930, for the purpose of providing the employees of A.E. Staley Manufacturing Company, its subsidiaries, and their families a cooperative environment in which members could save money and receive low-cost loans; it began with assets of $125 representing 25 member deposits of $5 each; and

WHEREAS, In 1987, the Credit Union's bylaws were changed and it became a community charter credit union to allow people who lived and worked in Macon, Moultrie, Piatt, DeWitt, or Shelby counties and their families to become members; and

WHEREAS, As the Credit Union movement grew, Staley Credit Union supported the future growth of credit unions nationwide by allowing directors to serve as officers on the board of the Central Illinois Chapter of Credit Unions and on the executive board of directors of Credit Union National Association; and

WHEREAS, Staley Credit Union is a not-for-profit financial cooperative that is owned by its members and operated solely for their benefit; it remains dedicated to its members and continues to strive to keep up with the times and provide responsive, convenient, and progressive services with the philosophy of "People Helping People"; and

WHEREAS, Today, Staley Credit Union has two offices in Decatur, as well as offices in Lafayette, Indiana, and Loudon, Tennessee, serves over 13,000 members, and has assets of almost $100 million; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Staley Credit Union on the occasion of its anniversary and express our appreciation for the valuable service it has provided to its members over the past 75 years; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Staley Credit Union as an expression of our esteem and best wishes for continued growth in the future.
