| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 |
| Representatives wish to congratulate Billy Grammer, a |
| 4 |
| legendary country and western singer and musician, on the |
| 5 |
| occasion of the celebration of his 80th birthday on August 28, |
| 6 |
| 2005; and
|
| 7 |
| WHEREAS, The oldest of 13 children, Mr. Grammer was born in |
| 8 |
| 1925; he was a 1943 graduate of Valier High School and served |
| 9 |
| in the U.S. Army; a Franklin County native, he now lives near |
| 10 |
| Valier with his wife of 60 years, Ruth; and
|
| 11 |
| WHEREAS, He started playing the fiddle when he was five, |
| 12 |
| but it was playing the guitar and later making guitars that |
| 13 |
| brought him both fame and fortune; in 1958, he formed his own |
| 14 |
| band and signed a recording deal with Monument Records; and
|
| 15 |
| WHEREAS, His success in music led him to the stage of the |
| 16 |
| Grand Ole Opry, where he was inducted as a member in 1959, and |
| 17 |
| to millions of miles in travel and appearances on The Ed |
| 18 |
| Sullivan Show, Dick Clark's American Bandstand, Bill |
| 19 |
| Anderson's Backstage Opry, Hee Haw, and others; he also worked |
| 20 |
| as a musician for Patsy Cline and Grandpa Jones and as a |
| 21 |
| session leader for Charlie Pride, Louis Armstrong, George |
| 22 |
| Jones, and Ernest Tubb; therefore, be it

| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |

| NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
| 25 |
| we extend our heartiest congratulations and best wishes to |
| 26 |
| Billy Grammer on the occasion of his 80th birthday; we commend |
| 27 |
| him for achieving a long and fulfilling life and wish him |
| 28 |
| continued happiness and good health in the future; and be it |
