HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to recognize milestone events in the lives of the citizens of the State of Illinois; and

WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that Terrence Dashon Howard was the recipient of the NAACP Image Award, an independent Spirit Award, and a Chicago Film Critics Award for his work in Malcolm D. Lee's "The Best Man"; and

WHEREAS, Terrence Howard was born on March 11, 1969 in Chicago; he graduated from the Pratt Institute with a degree in chemical engineering; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Howard was deeply influenced by his grandmother, New York stage actress Minnie Gentry; Terrence apparently shared the same talents as his grandmother, as he gravitated toward acting; and

WHEREAS, He worked at the craft and started his career on the small screen where he first nabbed a small appearance on the series "Family Matters" and "Coach"; he made his official debut at the age of 23, when he had a small role in the made-for-TV movie, "The Jacksons: An American Dream"; two years later, he landed a recurring role in "Picket Fences" and in 1995, appeared briefly opposite Richard Dreyfuss in "Mr. Holland's Opus"; that same year, Howard impressed critics in the film "Dead Presidents" and then hooked viewers onto UPN's "Sparks" in 1996; and

WHEREAS, He won a lead part in the basketball film, "Sunset Park" before continuing to appear in a string of supporting roles in "The Players Club", "The Best Man", "Big Momma's House", and "Angel Eyes" during the late '90s and early '00s; his breakthrough role began with the 2002 war film "Hart's War"; and in 2002, he won a Black Reel award as Best Supporting Actor in the TV movie "Boycott"; and

WHEREAS, Terrence Howard lit up the screen in the critically-acclaimed "Crash"; he also starred opposite Jamie Foxx in the Oscar-winning "Ray" and played a pimp/hopeful rapper in "Hustle & Flow"; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Howard has seen his movie roles increase in magnitude and range with each coming year and his rising success is well-deserved; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that that we congratulate Terrence Dashon Howard on his outstanding career to date and on his recent awards; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Terrence Dashon Howard as an expression of our esteem.
