| WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the |
| 3 |
| State of Illinois learned with sadness of the death of James E. |
| 4 |
| Redden of Marion on Thursday, September 8, 2005; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Redden was born on January 11, 1932, in West |
| 6 |
| Frankfort to Hugh F. and Thelma (Frazier) Redden; he married |
| 7 |
| Rosemary Gothard on January 16, 1953, in Herrin, and together |
| 8 |
| they shared more than 52 years of marriage; and
|
| 9 |
| WHEREAS, He graduated from McKendree College in Lebanon in |
| 10 |
| 1953, where he played football, ran track, and was manager for |
| 11 |
| the basketball team; he valiantly served his country as a |
| 12 |
| member of the U.S. Army during the Korean War; and
|
| 13 |
| WHEREAS, Following his military service, Mr. Redden taught |
| 14 |
| and coached at Cairo and Eldorado high schools; he was program |
| 15 |
| manager for Universal Match Corp, vice president of Central |
| 16 |
| Technology, Inc. of Herrin, retired after 20 years as vice |
| 17 |
| president with Olin Corporation in Marion and East Alton, and |
| 18 |
| executive vice president of Valentec International Corp in St. |
| 19 |
| Louis; he also taught business management courses at Southern |
| 20 |
| Illinois University and John A. Logan College; and
|
| 21 |
| WHEREAS, He was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist |
| 22 |
| Church, Marion Rotary Club, and the Williamson County Airport |
| 23 |
| Authority Board; he was an organizer and director of South |
| 24 |
| Pointe Bank, a precinct committeeman for the Republican Party, |
| 25 |
| and a 32nd degree Mason of Marion Lodge 89 A.F. and A.M., |
| 26 |
| Valley of Southern Illinois; he served as past president of the |
| 27 |
| Marion Wildcats Booster Club and the Marion Chamber of |
| 28 |
| Commerce, receiving the Marion Man of the Year award from the |
| 29 |
| Chamber in 1976; he was a past president of Marion Youth |
| 30 |
| Baseball and Softball, a past chairman of the Williamson County |
| 31 |
| Red Cross and the Williamson County Housing Authority, and a |
