| WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives have
|
| 3 |
| learned with great sadness of the death of Mary Margaret |
| 4 |
| Haskins Jacobs of River Forest on Monday, October 17, 2005; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, Mrs. Jacobs was born in LaSalle; she moved to |
| 6 |
| Chicago seven years later with her mother and seven brothers |
| 7 |
| after her father's death; and
|
| 8 |
| WHEREAS, Mrs. Jacobs married Dr. William Francis Jacobs in |
| 9 |
| 1941; throughout their 46 years of marriage, Dr. Jacobs |
| 10 |
| affectionately referred to Mary Margaret as "my bride"; the |
| 11 |
| couple would often retreat to the porch of the family home to |
| 12 |
| paint together; and
|
| 13 |
| WHEREAS, Mrs. Jacobs, a child of the Great Depression, |
| 14 |
| believed education was essential; she attended Loyola |
| 15 |
| University and graduated with a degree in elementary education |
| 16 |
| from Chicago Teachers College; she considered it a personal |
| 17 |
| responsibility to attain an education; and
|
| 18 |
| WHEREAS, Mrs. Jacobs was a Chicago public school teacher |
| 19 |
| until 1941; and
|
| 20 |
| WHEREAS, Mrs. Jacobs was a devout Catholic; the only thing |
| 21 |
| more important to her than education was her faith; she named |
| 22 |
| three of her daughters Mary in honor of the Virgin Mary; and
|
| 23 |
| WHEREAS, Family was sacred to Mrs. Jacobs; she raised |
| 24 |
| thirteen children, gently but indefatigably prodding them to |
| 25 |
| fulfill their potential; all thirteen of her children are |
| 26 |
| college graduates; and
|
| 27 |
| WHEREAS, Each of her children was born into a culture of |
| 28 |
| strong faith and strong education and each felt unconditionally |
