HOUSE RESOLUTION

    WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the 
3
State of Illinois recognize the dedication and efforts of the 
4
March of Dimes Illinois Chapter and their volunteers who for 
5
over 67 years have been fighting for the health and well-being 
6
of America's children and are now taking on the problem of 
7
prematurity; and

 
8
    WHEREAS, The March of Dimes Illinois Chapter has made a 
9
difference in the lives of over 22,000 premature babies born 
10
annually in Illinois; and

 
11
    WHEREAS, The March of Dimes Illinois Chapter is recognized 
12
for its programs to improve prematurity risk detection and 
13
prevent preterm births; and

 
14
    WHEREAS, Thanks to the research and education programs 
15
funded by the March of Dimes, every premature baby born has an 
16
increased chance for survival; and

 
17
    WHEREAS, The March of Dimes Illinois Chapter serves as a 
18
resource for information about healthy pregnancies and 
19
prematurity; and

 
20
    WHEREAS, The March of Dimes Illinois Chapter works to 
21
increase awareness of the risk factors associated with 
22
premature birth such as smoking, drinking, and substance use; 
23
and

 
24
    WHEREAS, The March of Dimes Illinois Chapter has 
25
successfully advocated to expand access to health coverage for 
26
pregnant women, infants, and children; therefore, be it

 
27
    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
28
NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that

we do hereby proclaim November 15, 2005 as Premature Awareness 
2
Day in Illinois and encourage all citizens to be cognizant of 
3
the many wonderful and lifesaving services the March of Dimes 
4
Illinois Chapter provides to the people of Illinois; and be it 
5
further

    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
7
presented to the March of Dimes Illinois Chapter as an 
8
expression of our esteem.
