| HOUSE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, On August 28, 2005, Hurricane Katrina reached |
| 3 |
| landfall, devastating the Gulf coast states; and
|
| 4 |
| WHEREAS, The cost in human suffering is ongoing for |
| 5 |
| hundreds of thousands of people who have lost loved ones, |
| 6 |
| homes, and livelihoods; and
|
| 7 |
| WHEREAS, Humanitarian aid was critically needed in many of |
| 8 |
| the devastated regions and the devastation on the Gulf Coast of |
| 9 |
| Mississippi, Louisiana, and Alabama was catastrophic; and
|
| 10 |
| WHEREAS, The American Red Cross, the Salvation Army, and |
| 11 |
| other volunteer organizations and charities supplied hurricane |
| 12 |
| survivors with food, water, and shelter; and
|
| 13 |
| WHEREAS, Thousands of volunteers and government employees |
| 14 |
| committed time and resources to help with recovery efforts; and
|
| 15 |
| WHEREAS, The volunteers who deployed to Kenner, Louisiana, |
| 16 |
| were Lt. Mike Kracht and firefighter John Lynch of the |
| 17 |
| Centralia Fire Department, Lt. Claude Howell of the Odin Fire |
| 18 |
| Protection District, and Chief Roger Mann and firefighter Randy |
| 19 |
| Schreffler of the Salem Fire Protection District; and
|
| 20 |
| WHEREAS, The volunteers who deployed to Hammond, |
| 21 |
| Louisiana, were Officer Bryan Green of Salem Police Department |
| 22 |
| and Officer Rob Dillon of Centralia Police Department; and
|
| 23 |
| WHEREAS, Many volunteers are still working to satisfy their |
| 24 |
| mission; therefore, be it
|
| 25 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 26 |
| NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
| 27 |
| we commend the volunteers and offer our condolences to the |
