| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|
| 2 |
| WHEREAS, The community of Dorsey is celebrating its |
| 3 |
| sesquicentennial on July 22 and 23, 2006; and
|
| 4 |
| WHEREAS, The Dorsey Community Improvement Association is |
| 5 |
| organizing the two-day event for the community and, as part of |
| 6 |
| the celebration, a historical book of Dorsey will be created; |
| 7 |
| and
|
| 8 |
| WHEREAS, Dorsey was settled in 1856 by the Dorsey family; |
| 9 |
| it had an active railroad stop for over 100 years starting in |
| 10 |
| 1854, the Emmaus Lutheran Church was founded in 1854, and |
| 11 |
| Dorsey's first post office opened in 1857; and
|
| 12 |
| WHEREAS, When the railroad was operating, it attracted a |
| 13 |
| variety of businesses to the area; Aljets Automotive and |
| 14 |
| Bertels Sales and Service opened in the early 1900s and both |
| 15 |
| businesses are still in operation today; and
|
| 16 |
| WHEREAS, The citizens of Dorsey are proud of the many |
| 17 |
| veterans from the community who have served the country in the |
| 18 |
| various wars throughout the years; therefore, be it
|
| 19 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 20 |
| NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
| 21 |
| we honor and recognize the community of Dorsey and its |
| 22 |
| residents on the occasion of its 150th anniversary and express |
| 23 |
| our sincerest best wishes for the future; and be it further
|
| 24 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 25 |
| presented to the community of Dorsey as an expression of our |
| 26 |
| admiration and esteem.
