| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|

| WHEREAS, The Louisiana Carpenters Regional Council used |
| 3 |
| generous donations received for disaster relief to set up a |
| 4 |
| Katrina Relief Fund; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, Monies received from the UBC Helping Hands Fund, |
| 6 |
| affiliate Regional Councils, affiliate Local Unions, and |
| 7 |
| individual member donations were used to help feed over 5,000 |
| 8 |
| people at the family social services center; and
|
| 9 |
| WHEREAS, Working with the Red Cross and with the donations |
| 10 |
| and volunteer efforts of the members and staff, the Council |
| 11 |
| turned its training center into a shelter to provide housing, |
| 12 |
| clothing, food, tools, and other forms of assistance to many |
| 13 |
| evacuee members and their families; and
|
| 14 |
| WHEREAS, An evacuee member of Local 1846 in New Orleans and |
| 15 |
| members of his family stayed at the shelter for two months; the |
| 16 |
| Relief Fund provided the member with numerous tools that |
| 17 |
| enabled him to go back to work; he and his family were also |
| 18 |
| provided their first month's rent and a deposit to help them |
| 19 |
| get into another house; and
|
| 20 |
| WHEREAS, The shelter also provided relief to many evacuees |
| 21 |
| from the Lake Charles region of Louisiana after Hurricane Rita; |
| 22 |
| and
|
| 23 |
| WHEREAS, The Council continues to use relief funds to |
| 24 |
| provide housing to workers in the New Orleans region; |
| 25 |
| therefore, be it
|

| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |

| NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |

| we commend the Louisiana Carpenters Regional Council for its |
| 29 |
| hard work and dedication in promoting relief efforts as a |
