| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|
| 2 |
| WHEREAS, It is the privilege of this Body to recognize |
| 3 |
| academic accomplishments of citizens of this State; and
|
| 4 |
| WHEREAS, Danville Area Community College student Hope |
| 5 |
| Marie Albin Dykes was recently named the only Lincoln Academy |
| 6 |
| Student Laureate for the entire Illinois Community College |
| 7 |
| system, chosen to represent the nearly 1 million Illinois |
| 8 |
| community college students; and
|
| 9 |
| WHEREAS, Mrs. Dykes is actively involved at her school and |
| 10 |
| is a member and president of Phi Theta Kappa, the international |
| 11 |
| honor society, which requires a grade point average of 4.50 to |
| 12 |
| be a member; and
|
| 13 |
| WHEREAS, Mrs. Dykes has overcome much adversity during her |
| 14 |
| life; because of family difficulties, she has lived on her own |
| 15 |
| since she was 15, and she is diagnosed with type 1 diabetes; |
| 16 |
| and
|
| 17 |
| WHEREAS, In addition to her devotion to academics, she |
| 18 |
| ardently works to help others, which she considers her mission; |
| 19 |
| she enjoys working with Phi Theta Kappa on its many community |
| 20 |
| service projects, especially in relation to the American Cancer |
| 21 |
| Society; she also serves on committees for the Relay for Life |
| 22 |
| and the First Night Danville celebration; in addition, she |
| 23 |
| mentored two school-age girls who also have type 1 diabetes; |
| 24 |
| and
|
| 25 |
| WHEREAS, She is married to her husband, Colby, and is |
| 26 |
| especially proud of her relationship with her siblings, Noah |
| 27 |
| and Holly; her father has been a huge support for her and her |
| 28 |
| grandpa, Benny Albin, was the biggest influence on her life; |
