| WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that Judge George W. |
| 3 |
| Timberlake will retire from his position as Chief Judge in |
| 4 |
| December of 2006 after 20 years of service in the Second |
| 5 |
| Judicial Circuit of Illinois; and
|
| 6 |
| WHEREAS, Judge Timberlake earned a B.A. in political |
| 7 |
| science, a Juris Doctor degree, and Master of Business |
| 8 |
| Administration degree at the University of Illinois; and
|
| 9 |
| WHEREAS, He was appointed Circuit Judge in 1985, elected in |
| 10 |
| 2000, and is currently Chief Judge of the Second Judicial |
| 11 |
| Circuit; he is the
Chairman of the Conference of Chief Judges |
| 12 |
| Juvenile Committee, a member of the Supreme Court Study |
| 13 |
| Committee on Juvenile Justice, and a member of the Executive |
| 14 |
| Committee of Governors Community Safety and Re-entry Working |
| 15 |
| Group; and
|
| 16 |
| WHEREAS, The Second Judicial District consists of 12 rural |
| 17 |
| counties in the southeastern corner of the State; in his |
| 18 |
| capacity as Chief Judge, he supervises 19 other judges, 14 |
| 19 |
| court reporters, 4 probation divisions with 42 employees, and |
| 20 |
| works closely with 12 Circuit Clerks to oversee the court |
| 21 |
| schedules of those counties and to keep them operating smoothly |
| 22 |
| and efficiently; Judge Timberlake also supervises the Franklin |
| 23 |
| County Juvenile Detention Center, with 45 employees; the |
| 24 |
| Center, under Judge Timberlake, currently operates a |
| 25 |
| traditional detention center, a model assessment center, and |
| 26 |
| will soon open a ground-breaking juvenile methamphetamine |
| 27 |
| treatment center; and
|
| 28 |
| WHEREAS, The Second Circuit currently serves as a Redeploy |
| 29 |
| Illinois pilot site, a National Institute of Corrections |
| 30 |
| Evidence-Based Practices pilot site, and a Juvenile Detention |
| 31 |
| Alternatives Initiative cohort site; and
