| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|
| 2 |
| WHEREAS, Physicians and other providers of health care |
| 3 |
| services are essential participants in the State's Medicaid |
| 4 |
| program, which is administered by the Department of Healthcare |
| 5 |
| and Family Services; they provide necessary health care |
| 6 |
| services to low-income individuals and families throughout the |
| 7 |
| State; and
|
| 8 |
| WHEREAS, One of the results of the State's fiscal crisis of |
| 9 |
| the past several years has been the State's failure to make |
| 10 |
| timely payments to physicians and other providers of health |
| 11 |
| care services for the services they have provided to Medicaid |
| 12 |
| recipients; and
|
| 13 |
| WHEREAS, The chronic lateness of the State's payments to |
| 14 |
| providers under the Medicaid program has caused many of those |
| 15 |
| providers to discontinue providing necessary health care |
| 16 |
| services to Medicaid recipients; and
|
| 17 |
| WHEREAS, Medicaid recipients do not have private health |
| 18 |
| insurance that will cover the cost of health care services that |
| 19 |
| they need, nor do they have sufficient income to be able to pay |
| 20 |
| for such services themselves; and
|
| 21 |
| WHEREAS, As long as the State's failure to make timely |
| 22 |
| payments to physicians and other providers of health care |
| 23 |
| services under the Medicaid program continues, Medicaid |
| 24 |
| recipients will be at risk of losing their access to necessary |
| 25 |
| health care services; and
|
| 26 |
| WHEREAS, The good health of the residents of this State, |
| 27 |
| and those residents' access to health care services, should be |
| 28 |
| a priority of State government; therefore, be it
|
