| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|
| 2 |
| WHEREAS, The Illinois College of Optometry traces its |
| 3 |
| origins to 1872 in Chicago; and
|
| 4 |
| WHEREAS, The Illinois College of Optometry is the oldest |
| 5 |
| institution of its kind in North America; and
|
| 6 |
| WHEREAS, This venerable institution was founded by the |
| 7 |
| mergers of three prior institutions: the Northern Illinois |
| 8 |
| College of Optometry, the Monroe College of Optometry, and the |
| 9 |
| Chicago College of Optometry, the latter two having merged |
| 10 |
| their operations in 1947; and
|
| 11 |
| WHEREAS, The single institution emerged from the historic |
| 12 |
| merger of Northern Illinois College of Optometry and the |
| 13 |
| Chicago College of Optometry on June 10, 1955; therefore, be it
|
| 14 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 15 |
| NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
| 16 |
| we hail the fiftieth anniversary of the aforementioned historic |
| 17 |
| event in the annals of optometric education and vision care; |
| 18 |
| and be it further
|
| 19 |
| RESOLVED, That we salute the Board of Trustees, Dr. Arol |
| 20 |
| Augsburger, President, and the administration, faculty, |
| 21 |
| students, and alumni of the Illinois College of Optometry for |
| 22 |
| the spectacular contributions that they and their predecessors |
| 23 |
| have made to the vitality of optometric education and to the |
| 24 |
| historic achievement of the profession of optometry and vision |
| 25 |
| care in Illinois, in the nation, and throughout the world; and |
| 26 |
| be it further
|
| 27 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 28 |
| presented to the Board of Trustees of the Illinois College of |
| 29 |
| Optometry as an expression of our esteem.
