HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, When young people start skipping school, they are telling their parents, school officials, and the community at large that they are in trouble and need our help if they are to keep moving forward in life; and

WHEREAS, Preventing or combating truancy is one of the first ways that a community can reach out quickly to a disaffected young person and his or her family; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that there is established the Truants' Alternative and Optional Education Task Force for the purpose of recommending a best model for the distribution of Truants' Alternative and Optional Education Program grant funds to ensure that limited resources reach the students most in need; and be it further

RESOLVED, That the Task Force shall consist of the following members: (i) one member of the House of Representatives or his or her designee, appointed by the Speaker of the House to serve as co-chairperson of the Task Force; (ii) one member of the House of Representatives or his or her designee, appointed by the Minority Leader of the House to serve as co-chairperson of the Task Force; (iii) 2 members of the public, one of whom shall be appointed by the Speaker of the House and one of whom shall be appointed by the Minority Leader of the House; (iv) one member representing an optional education program, appointed by the State Board of Education; (v) one member representing a truancy intervention program, appointed by the State Board of Education; (vi) one member representing a regional office of education, appointed by an association that represents regional superintendents of schools; (vii) one member representing a school district, appointed by an association representing school management; (viii) one member representing community colleges, appointed by the Illinois Community College Board; (ix) one member appointed by a coalition that advocates for at-risk youth; and (x) one employee of the State Board of Education who works with the Truants' Alternative and Optional Education Program, appointed by the State Board of Education; and be it further

RESOLVED, That the Truants' Alternative and Optional Education Task Force shall file a report of its findings with the Clerk of the House no later than January 1, 2007 and that upon filing its report the Task Force is dissolved; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be delivered to the State Board of Education and the Illinois Community College Board.
