| HOUSE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, When young people start skipping school, they are |
| 3 |
| telling their parents, school officials, and the community at |
| 4 |
| large that they are in trouble and need our help if they are to |
| 5 |
| keep moving forward in life; and
|
| 6 |
| WHEREAS, Preventing or combating truancy is one of the |
| 7 |
| first ways that a community can reach out quickly to a |
| 8 |
| disaffected young person and his or her family; therefore, be |
| 9 |
| it
|
| 10 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 11 |
| NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
| 12 |
| there is established the Truants' Alternative and Optional |
| 13 |
| Education Task Force for the purpose of recommending a best |
| 14 |
| model for the distribution of Truants' Alternative and Optional |
| 15 |
| Education Program grant funds to ensure that limited resources |
| 16 |
| reach the students most in need; and be it further
|
| 17 |
| RESOLVED, That the Task Force shall consist of the |
| 18 |
| following members: (i) one member of the House of |
| 19 |
| Representatives or his or her designee, appointed by the |
| 20 |
| Speaker of the House to serve as co-chairperson of the Task |
| 21 |
| Force; (ii) one member of the House of Representatives or his |
| 22 |
| or her designee, appointed by the Minority Leader of the House |
| 23 |
| to serve as co-chairperson of the Task Force; (iii) 2 members |
| 24 |
| of the public, one of whom shall be appointed by the Speaker of |
| 25 |
| the House and one of whom shall be appointed by the Minority |
| 26 |
| Leader of the House; (iv) one member representing an optional |
| 27 |
| education program, appointed by the State Board of Education; |
| 28 |
| (v) one member representing a truancy intervention program, |
| 29 |
| appointed by the State Board of Education; (vi) one member |
| 30 |
| representing a regional office of education, appointed by an |
| 31 |
| association that represents regional superintendents of |
| 32 |
| schools; (vii) one member representing a school district, |
