HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, State Representative Eileen Lyons has served the citizens of her district with distinction since 1995; after ten distinguished years of service in the House of Representatives, she is retiring; and

WHEREAS, She was born on July 3, 1941; she attended Elmhurst College, where she received a B.A. in English; she lives in Western Springs and is married to Arthur; she has four children, Nancy, Judy, Jeanne, and Jennifer; and

WHEREAS, During her time in the General Assembly, Representative Lyons sponsored several new Acts, including the Gang Crime Witness Protection Act, the Recycled Content Products Study Act, the Massage Licensing Act, and the Abuse Prevention Review Team Act; she was the main sponsor of legislation to make gun running nonprobationable, to require Commonwealth Edison to make blackout plans, to require DNA samples from certain offenders, to make clergy mandated child abuse reporters, to legalize teenage umpires and lifeguards, to enhance vision screening requirements at schools, to ban "sales tax poaching", and to encourage courts to order restitution; and

WHEREAS, Representative Lyons has served on several legislative committees, including the International Trade and Commerce Committee, the Executive Committee, the Fee-For-Service Initiatives Committee, the Telecommunications Committee, and the Appropriations-Elementary and Secondary Education Committee; she was also appointed to the Legislative Audit Commission; and

WHEREAS, Representative Lyons is active in her community; she serves on the Western Springs Police and Fire Commission and is a member of the Business and Professional Women's Network, the Illinois Federation of Republican Women, the Southwest Republican Women's Network, and the American Association of University Women; and

WHEREAS, She has been honored with the Western Springs Public Safety Award, the Friend of Nursing Award from the Illinois Nurses Association, and the Distinguished Alumni Award from the College of DuPage; she is a member of Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate State Representative Eileen Lyons on the occasion of her retirement after ten years of distinguished service in the House of Representatives; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Representative Lyons as an expression of our esteem and with best wishes for all of her future endeavors.
