| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|
| 2 |
| WHEREAS, The Montford Point Marine Association held its |
| 3 |
| 40th annual national convention in Chicago on July 16, 2005; |
| 4 |
| and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, Chicago was the site of the Montford Point |
| 6 |
| Association's very first convention in 1966; the Chicago |
| 7 |
| chapter of the Montford Point Marine Association is the second |
| 8 |
| oldest of the organization's 28 chapters; and
|
| 9 |
| WHEREAS, The Montford Point Marine Association is a |
| 10 |
| nonprofit veteran's organization, established to perpetuate |
| 11 |
| the legacy of the first African Americans who entered the |
| 12 |
| United States Marine Corps from 1942 to 1949, at Montford Point |
| 13 |
| Camp, New River, North Carolina; and
|
| 14 |
| WHEREAS, Membership in the Association is open to veterans |
| 15 |
| and active members of all branches of the U.S. Armed Forces |
| 16 |
| regardless of race, creed, or national origin; and
|
| 17 |
| WHEREAS, The purpose of the Association is to support |
| 18 |
| educational assistance programs, veterans programs, and |
| 19 |
| promotion of community services; the Association works to |
| 20 |
| improve the social conditions of our nation's veterans, local |
| 21 |
| families, youth, and the growing population of senior citizens; |
| 22 |
| therefore, be it
|

| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 24 |
| NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
| 25 |
| we congratulate the Montford Point Marine Association on the |
| 26 |
| occasion of its 40th annual national convention; and be it |
| 27 |
| further

| RESOLVED, That we recognize the Montford Point Marine |
| 29 |
| Association for its longtime service to the nation's veterans |
