| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|
| 2 |
| WHEREAS, The Midwest Student Exchange Program (MSEP) is the |
| 3 |
| Midwest's largest multi-state tuition reciprocity program; |
| 4 |
| since 1994, the MSEP has provided more affordable opportunities |
| 5 |
| for students to attend out-of-state institutions; and
|
| 6 |
| WHEREAS, Through the MSEP, public institutions agree to |
| 7 |
| charge students no more than 150% of the in-state resident |
| 8 |
| tuition rate for specific programs and private institutions |
| 9 |
| offer a 10% reduction in their tuition rates; and
|
| 10 |
| WHEREAS, Over 125 colleges and universities in Kansas, |
| 11 |
| Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, and |
| 12 |
| Wisconsin have opened their doors to each others' citizens at |
| 13 |
| more affordable rates; and
|
| 14 |
| WHEREAS, Illinois is a member of the Midwestern Higher |
| 15 |
| Education Compact, which operates the MSEP, but is not a |
| 16 |
| current participant in the MSEP; and
|
| 17 |
| WHEREAS, All enrollment and eligibility decisions for the |
| 18 |
| program are made by the participating institution; campuses may |
| 19 |
| open the MSEP to particular programs, limit the number of MSEP |
| 20 |
| students admitted, and establish specific admission |
| 21 |
| requirements; therefore, be it
|
| 22 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 23 |
| NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
| 24 |
| we encourage the participation of this State and each public |
| 25 |
| and private college or university of this State in the Midwest |
| 26 |
| Student Exchange Program; and be it further
|
| 27 |
| RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be |
| 28 |
| delivered to the Midwestern Higher Education Compact |
| 29 |
| Commissioners for this State and to the president of each |
