| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|
| 2 |
| WHEREAS, Presently, only half a percent of energy in |
| 3 |
| Illinois comes from renewable resources, while a staggering 45% |
| 4 |
| comes from coal; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, Coal in the State of Illinois is high in sulfur, |
| 6 |
| which causes a higher amount of air pollution, in turn causing |
| 7 |
| a problem for asthma sufferers and for people with health |
| 8 |
| related breathing problems; and
|
| 9 |
| WHEREAS, As evidenced by recent events in the coal mines of |
| 10 |
| West Virginia, the risk to coal miners in the State of Illinois |
| 11 |
| is greater than ever; and
|
| 12 |
| WHEREAS, Fossil fuels such as coal are going to continue to |
| 13 |
| be more expensive to convert to energy, will continue to |
| 14 |
| produce adverse effects on the environment and the health of |
| 15 |
| our citizens, and will someday run out; and |
| 16 |
| WHEREAS, Solar power and wind power are both renewable |
| 17 |
| energy, and are safe to both the environment and people; and
|
| 18 |
| WHEREAS, Renewable energy is a long-term solution to the |
| 19 |
| energy crisis in the United States; and
|
| 20 |
| WHEREAS, With rising energy costs affecting the citizens of |
| 21 |
| the State of Illinois, renewable energy is a cost-efficient |
| 22 |
| alternative to coal and other fossil fuels; therefore, be it
|
| 23 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 24 |
| NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
| 25 |
| we urge the Illinois Commerce Commission to propose at least |
| 26 |
| three all new programs that will increase the percentage of the |
| 27 |
| energy that is created in the State of Illinois from renewable |
| 28 |
| wind, solar, and hydroelectric resources and report these |
