| WHEREAS, It is the privilege of this Body to recognize |
| 3 |
| milestone events for institutions of our great State; and
|
| 4 |
| WHEREAS, The Shriners Hospital for Children in Chicago, a |
| 5 |
| leading Midwest children's hospital providing high-quality |
| 6 |
| pediatric orthopedic surgery, plastic, reconstructive, and |
| 7 |
| maxillofacial surgery, and spinal cord injury care, is |
| 8 |
| celebrating its 80th anniversary on Sunday, June 4, 2006; and
|
| 9 |
| WHEREAS, Located on the northwest side of Chicago, the |
| 10 |
| hospital is a short term, 60-bed facility that combines quality |
| 11 |
| medical care with innovative education and research; its |
| 12 |
| mission is to provide the highest quality care to children with |
| 13 |
| neuromusculoskeletal conditions, burn injuries, and certain |
| 14 |
| other special healthcare needs within a compassionate, |
| 15 |
| family-centered, and collaborative care environment; and
|
| 16 |
| WHEREAS, This mission is carried out without cost to the |
| 17 |
| patient or family and without regard to race, color, creed, or |
| 18 |
| sex; today the Shriners operate the only healthcare system that |
| 19 |
| is funded totally through philanthropy; and
|
| 20 |
| WHEREAS, The hospital primarily serves children from |
| 21 |
| Illinois, Iowa, Indiana, Ohio, Wisconsin, and Michigan; |
| 22 |
| referrals are accepted from outside these areas due to the |
| 23 |
| hospital's surgical specialties and rehabilitation expertise; |
| 24 |
| and
|
| 25 |
| WHEREAS, During the last three surveys, the Shriners |
| 26 |
| Hospital for Children in Chicago received Accreditation with |
| 27 |
| Commendation from the Joint Commission on Accreditation of |
| 28 |
| Healthcare Organizations, ranking it at the top nationwide; the |
| 29 |
| hospital is also accredited by the Accreditation Council for |
| 30 |
| Graduate Medical Education and is licensed by the Illinois |
