| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|
| 2 |
| WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the |
| 3 |
| State of Illinois are pleased to recognize the fifth grade |
| 4 |
| class at Fearn Elementary School in North Aurora for their |
| 5 |
| outstanding ideas and input for the "Create a Bill" contest |
| 6 |
| sponsored by Representatives Linda Chapa LaVia; and
|
| 7 |
| WHEREAS, The students showed much promise by offering |
| 8 |
| innovative, creative solutions to various issues, and the |
| 9 |
| members of this Body should take their suggestions to heart as |
| 10 |
| we continue to make the laws that govern our great State, |
| 11 |
| especially when said legislation pertains to the students' |
| 12 |
| areas of concern; and
|
| 13 |
| WHEREAS, Among the ideas submitted by the students were the |
| 14 |
| following: increase the legal age for smoking from 18 to 21 |
| 15 |
| because of the health risks associated with this behavior; |
| 16 |
| increase State funding for juvenile diabetes research; provide |
| 17 |
| assistance for consumer utility bills; develop alternative |
| 18 |
| sources of energy so that the State is not dependent on foreign |
| 19 |
| oil and is able to keep energy costs low; prohibit minors from |
| 20 |
| having access to sexually explicit and violent music; provide |
| 21 |
| stricter regulations on liquor sales at bars to prevent public |
| 22 |
| drunkenness; require school busses to have seat belts to ensure |
| 23 |
| the safety of Illinois school children; and protect the safety |
| 24 |
| and welfare of animals in Illinois and encourage people to |
| 25 |
| respect the life of all of God's creatures; therefore, be it

| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 27 |
| NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
| 28 |
| we commend the fifth graders from Fearn Elementary School for |
| 29 |
| their outstanding ideas and input in the "Create a Bill" |
| 30 |
| contest, and we thank the students for being involved in the |
| 31 |
| legislative process; and be it further
