| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|
| 2 |
| WHEREAS, The Niles North High School chess team recently |
| 3 |
| won its first IHSA State Chess Championship; and
|
| 4 |
| WHEREAS, The team went into the Peoria tournament as top |
| 5 |
| seed in a field of 123 teams from across the State; the |
| 6 |
| 12-student team battled through seven rounds of competition; |
| 7 |
| and
|
| 8 |
| WHEREAS, Each round consisted of eight individual games |
| 9 |
| played by members, with point values assigned based on the |
| 10 |
| level of difficulty each board represented; and
|
| 11 |
| WHEREAS, Two team members, Ilan Meerovich and Ben |
| 12 |
| Rothschild, were named Illinois Chess Association Warren |
| 13 |
| Scholars, a program honoring players for reaching top echelons |
| 14 |
| of play nationally; and
|
| 15 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Meerovich, Mr. Rothschild, Jeff Paykin, |
| 16 |
| Joseph Lui, Rahesh Patel, Ninoshka Fernandes, Mike Thariath, |
| 17 |
| Alex Zatvornitsky, Igor Fortel, Oscar Miranda, and Matthew |
| 18 |
| Castillon were honored for the win by the Niles Township High |
| 19 |
| School District Board during its regular meeting; coaches Harry |
| 20 |
| Kyriazes, Heather Ingraham, and John Krestos were also honored; |
| 21 |
| therefore, be it

| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |

| NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
| 24 |
| we congratulate the Niles North High School chess team on |
| 25 |
| winning its first IHSA State Chess Championship; and be it |

| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
