| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|
| 2 |
| WHEREAS, Those individuals who work to protect and serve |
| 3 |
| the citizens of our State are worthy of the highest praise; and
|
| 4 |
| WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that Charleston Fire |
| 5 |
| Chief Darrell Nees will be retiring after more than 25 years of |
| 6 |
| placing himself in harms way for the safety of others; and
|
| 7 |
| WHEREAS, Chief Nees started with the Fire and Rescue |
| 8 |
| Department in 1979; he has been the fire chief for six years |
| 9 |
| after serving as ambulance supervisor for 13 years; and
|
| 10 |
| WHEREAS, He valiantly served our country as a member of the |
| 11 |
| U.S. Army's 36th Engineer Battalion in Vietnam; and
|
| 12 |
| WHEREAS, During his tenure as chief, he has focused on the |
| 13 |
| city's ambulance service, which handles a much higher number of |
| 14 |
| calls than the fire service, and keeping equipment up-to-date; |
| 15 |
| he also played a key role in planning for the department's |
| 16 |
| training facility on West Madison Avenue, attaining grant funds |
| 17 |
| for its creation; the facility is a great asset for |
| 18 |
| Charleston's firefighter-paramedics and police officers and |
| 19 |
| can also host training for emergency responders from other area |
| 20 |
| agencies; he is especially proud of how the department's |
| 21 |
| personnel have excelled at firefighting, paramedic, rescue, |
| 22 |
| and hazardous materials training; and
|
| 23 |
| WHEREAS, In his retirement, Chief Nees plans to fish, golf, |
| 24 |
| relax, work around the house, and spend time with his wife, |
| 25 |
| Susie, and their children and grandchildren; therefore, be it
|
| 26 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 27 |
| NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
| 28 |
| we congratulate Fire Chief Nees on the occasion of his |
| 29 |
| retirement, and we wish him well in the future; and be it |
